About us
National Doorwatch is not a Union - it is first and last - a family. In our profession it’s never about the money – it’s about the trust we build up with our colleagues. The trust that lets us know, we can rely on each other - whatever the circumstances!
National Doorwatch is not a Union - it is first and last - a family. National Doorwatch is proud its family make up one of the most diverse professions in the country. In our profession it’s all about the ability to do the job. This is a profession which requires a combination of understanding, tolerance, and above all patience in some extremely demanding circumstances. Indeed research commissioned by the SIA shows 60% of Door Supervisors have been physical attacked during the course of their duties.
Therefore National Doorwatch is all about communication, it recognises Door Supervisors can no longer work in isolation and it's time for them to step forward positively into the future. National Doorwatch want to get the message out to everyone, that Door Supervisors and their colleagues should be recognised and valued as a significant contributor to Public Safety in the Night Time Economy.
National Doorwatch firmly believes in the reality of there being good and bad people in every walk of life and occupation. National Doorwatch will always support, within the framework of existing legislation, action taken against any individual proven to have brought the industry into disrepute. Therefore no comment will be made on the case of any individual, until it is fully concluded.
What’s in it for me?
It gives you free access to a wealth of information that you need to do your job properly. This includes the Law, Best Practice, H&S, etc. It gives you the opportunity to gain access to information from your Local Agencies, Police, etc, which you wouldn't be allowed to see as an individual or a separate company. Eventually we will be able to provide free legal advice 24/7, but for now we aim to give you the tools and the encouragement you deserve, to reduce the need for legal advice in the first place.
What’s in it for National Doorwatch?
The truth is - nothing without you! National Doorwatch will only be able to put forward your views if you join. Wouldn't it have been nice to have had your say on the introduction of SIA licensing, what the training should be, and how much it should all cost? The good news is at least now you'll be asked, and given the chance to vote on key issues as they arise.
What will the people running it at the top get out of it - far less than the effort they put in deserves. They are doing this because this is a good idea. At present everybody is volunteering their services and time for free. They are taking time off work - giving up their holidays - for the potential this organisation offers. The best they can hope for in the immediate future, is to have their properly accounted for expenses paid, and raise their personal profile.
How are we going to fund National Doorwatch?
As already stated National Doorwatch is a free service. It costs you nothing to join! We are hoping to raise funds by a number of means.
-
Advertising: We will sell advertising on the site - but that advertising must be relevant and of interest to the industry. This means we won't advertise just for the sake of it or because we are being offered more money to promote goods which are not up to the standards we believe are necessary. Finally we will seek to ensure that every time someone buys from the site the selling company makes a contribution. This will enable us to get you the best prices and because of the volume we generate, help finance our National policies and campaigns.
-
Funding: We will seek to obtain funding from a variety of Government and Non Government sources to finance initiatives in the areas of Education, and Research.
-
Sponsorship: We are certain many in the industry will see the benefit of this service and donate finance or resource to ensure we can maintain and develop its scope. These donations can be from companies or you the user of the service.
All funds raised will be available for scrutiny, and used to pay the bills for the National Programme.
What’s it all mean to you?
Simply put, if you work in the Security Industry, then welcome home.
