Best Practice

We know we deal with people of all ages, disabilities, genders, sexual orientation, sexual preferences, races, religions, and beliefs. We recognise every person is an individual and will react differently to any given situation.

Their reaction is made even more unpredictable when they are under the influence of one or more drugs, including alcohol.  There may also be physical or psychological factors, which we don't know, or cannot see, which is influencing their reaction.  We try to take account of all of this wherever we are working, but you can never fully account for the reactions of any individual or group.  All we are able to do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best, due to the dangers we face every time we go to work.

What we want to do in this section is develop "best practice" options for these and other situations.  If we can develop a common language it will make communication easier for all concerned.  We hope our partners will help us achieve this by giving their views and advice.  However, it is important all involved recognise the Health & Safety of the customer, the offender, and ourselves, is wherever feasibly possible, the main objective.
