To be effective in any emergency you need to have a plan. However if you cannot read, write or speak good English, you won't be able to let people know what they need to do to help them keep safe. You will be putting their lives and everyone else's lives on the line. Being able to communicate to your colleagues and your customers is an essential part of your role. Therefore the single biggest thing members can do to improve Health and Safety for all involved - is to give your friends and colleagues the help and support they need to learn - without being made to feel foolish.
