Door Supervisor, Jason Hollins, is determined to make Derby city centre a safer place to work for all after the stabbing of a close colleague and friend, whilst working on a door.

Derby signs up to the Doorwatch Project

Jason Hollins, has been working on the doors for some 9 years, and around 14 years in total in security.  He decided the time had come to step up, stop moaning, and make a difference, after a close friend and colleague was stabbed.  According to Jason it was a very traumatic experience, which has left his friend unsure of the wisdom of continuing in the Night-Time Economy (NTE).  Given that he almost lost his life, this is hardly surprising.  Jason was himself stabbed that night, as he gave chase to the assailant, and is apparently up for a bravery award from the Police.

Using this incident as a springboard, Jason has already held one Doorwatch meeting.  He feels this is exactly the right sort of organisation for Door Supervisors to come together and gain a voice.  Walking round on Friday night it was evident there was a lot of pent up frustration.  This frustration covered all the topics, which are raised time and time again, all across the country.  It focussed on communications with the Police, with the CCTV operators, the SIA (specifically the cost of the badge and who's going to pay for the new training requirements).

The work Jason is doing to make this work in Derby is a credit to him, a credit to the men and women on the Doors, and should become a credit to the city itself.  With the recession, and budgetary cuts being made across all Government departments, recognising the positive contribution which can be made by Door Supervisors, should be seen for the potential it offers!
