Tuesday 7th of September, sees Jason Hollins elected as Chairman of Derby Doorwatch. He said "I'm very grateful for all the support, and will do my best to make things better here in the City Centre." Derby under starters orders as Doorwatch committee gets elected. The election of a Doorwatch in Derby is a fantastic result for Jason's efforts to improve the safety of everyone using the Night-time Economy. He has put in a lot of time, walking around the City Centre, making sure the Door Supervisors understood that this was their local association. He encouraged them to make the effort to turn up and vote for the future. A future in which their voice was heard and included in the decision making process. Speaking after his election he said Derby had seen a large increase in Night-time disorder, which had a direct impact on the safety of Door Supervisors. This view was echoed by "H", who was elected as Treasurer. She believed it was time something changed and having a local Doorwatch was definitely a step in the right direction. Inspector Steve Fairbrother, welcomed the formation of the group, stating this would make communications a lot simpler and a lot more open. He looked forward to working with Doorwatch to tackle some of the more pressing issues faced by the City. He made it clear that Doorwatch had to be driven by the Door Supervisors themselves and he would do all he could to support the project. It was then down to business, with Fake I.D. and the way it is handled being the main topic. Ian Fox, National Doorwatch, gave a brief update as to the National position, which included current efforts to source free training for existing Door Supervisors, as and when the new requirements for renewal are released. He also cautioned Derby Doorwatch and their Door Supervisors, to focus on carrying out their role correctly. He said "Door Supervisors already have an extremely difficult role in enforcing primary legislation at Licensed premises, without being expected to take on additional responsibilties, outside their assignment instructions." Jason then thanked everyone present and told them he would inform them of the next meeting.
