Exeter Door Supervisors outraged by plans to cut CCTV coverage in the City. Jimmy Myers challenges Councillors to work along-side him on any Friday or Saturday night to see just how vital the service is! Jimmy Myers, Chair Exeter, organises petition for re-think on cuts to CCTV coverage on public safety grounds! When Door Supervisors feel the need to organise a petition on the grounds of Public Safety - then something is very wrong with the whole system - not just the CCTV system. As Jimmy says "...it is an invaluable tool in our area. It might not be perfect, but it provides us with a lot of vital information about what's going on on the ground, on the nights we work. It also helps with evidence gathering when an incident has occured, which means you at least know there'll be additional back-up for your version of events, rather than some drunken idiot whose selfishness ruins other peoples nights out, and damages the image of the city..." Jimmy has done a fantastic job, in getting the word out in such a fantastically pro-active way. This petition and it's motivation are a much more realistic picture of what Door Supervisors are about - rather than the tired old stereotype, that supposedly got left behind with the advent of Licensing? This is the reason why Door Supervisors need to get together and work together, because in the end it's us that have to tidy up the mess on the streets - with very little in the way of support.
