Fire

In the event of a fire, you are one of the key personnel. It will be you giving directions and guiding people to safety.

You can only do this if you are fully aware of the correct fire practices in your venue.  Do not attempt to fight the fire unless you have been trained to do so and you have already identified that your exit route is clear. To do that you need to be aware of the following

  • Where are the fire exits?
  • Where is the nearest correct type of fire extinguisher to fight that particular fire?
  • Remember the people you are dealing with may be in various states of 'reality' - dependant on the amount of drink, or how they react to the fire alarm, so it is important that you remain calm and professional at all times during the evacuation process.
  • Ensure rooms are completely cleared before closing windows and doors.
  • Do not re-enter the building until told to do so on the authorisation of the Fire Brigade and do not allow any other person to enter either for what-ever reason.
  • Advise the Fire Brigade immediately if you believe that a person may still be in the venue.
  • Always advise your control before changing position in the event that you are overcome with smoke they need to know where your last position was.

Remember Dead heroes are no good to anyone!
