This is the first security update from the Olympic Security Directorate (OSD) Cross-sector Safety & Security Communications (CSSC) team for all those concerned with providing security in the events, hospitality and leisure industry. Initially this is being trialled in the London area and it is expected to go national in time for the Olympics.
The Channel 4 programme "Bouncers" illustrated perfectly why the profession is in danger of being taken in-house by the more astute companies.
The SIA have responded quickly to clarify the situation regarding EU security operatives working in the UK.
EU Employment policy means that EU citizens working in the UK temporarily can register to provide SIA licensable activities in the UK on a temporary basis without having to undergo training, purchase a license or speak English! Provided they can show they have at least worked in a security role for 2 years out of the last 10.
This year offers forward thinkers opportunities to set them up for this year and the next!
A look at what Bridging the Gap is aiming to provide and how in some ares - these aims are falling short.
When the fiddling stops - what will be the final cost of securing the real Olympic experience to the Events, Hospitality, & Leisure Industry (EHLI) across the UK?
Given the forthcoming Olympic year: Can the Home Secretary continue to function effectively in the role, given her apparent lack of knowledge/control over the the safety of the nation?
Great news! At last door supervisor safety is being taken seriously. This is an opportunity for everyone involved in delivering security in the events, hospitality, and leisure sector to put this matter firmly on the agenda.
Door supervisors should be extremely concerned about the direction of the licensing proposals. The proposed changes could see them pay more rather than less for the privilidge of protecting the public from themselves.
