National Doorwatch brings some commonsense to the hysteria surrounding the alleged demise of the SIA. The SIA and a little commonsenseLast weeks leaking of the list of Quango's to be abolished was understandable from the perspective of the journalist and paper involved - it's their job. However it was totally irresponsible on the part of the Government whistleblower, and showed a complete lack of care for the safety and welfare of those whose livelihoods are effected by this action. This action has caused a great deal of distress to all SIA license holders - not in terms of whether the SIA continues in its current form - but the immediate impact on their working requirements. To that end National Doorwatch will be consulting with their legal advisors, to see if a legal case can be made against the Government. National Doorwatch will be be asking for compensation, for any losses incurred by all SIA License holders, and potential applicants as a result of this leak. Meanwhile, the SIA have stated it is "business as usual" as far as they are concerned. This will also apply to the Police and Licensing Enforcement teams. This means nothing has changed for you as a license-holder. If you hold a license - you still need to ensure you renew it in order to continue working. If you haven't got a license - then you still need to get one. As for the demise of the SIA this won't happen overnight - it will happen over a period of time. In any event you will undoubtedly have to pay someone a license fee, still do some training, etc - just like they did before the SIA existed. Whatever you do, don't listen to anyone who tells you to do any different. Even if they're right you can always get a refund!
