Tuesday 19th at the Walkabout in Nottingham saw Door Supervisors from all over the city elect its committee.

Nottingham Door Supervisors elect Doorwatch committee

New Chair, Tan Yousaf, was elected unopposed.  In thanking the Door Supervisors for their support, he promised to represent them all equally.  He went on to say "...I want to make our Doorwatch into an organisation that is taken seriously by the Police and the Council.  We all know we have a lot to give...".  His words were echoed by Iwona Kossek who said "...now Doorwatch is properly constituted, it opens up the way forward for Door Supervisors to get their message across.

Guy and Brendon congratulate each other on becoming Vice-chair.

The shock of the night was two people stood for the post of Vice-Chair.  Both men stood up and made a good case for themselves.  Each wanted to help make a positive difference to the lives of Door Supervisors in the City.  Finally the words ran out and in the true spirit of the warrior they agreed to share the role.  This was warmly welcomed by those present and voted in unanimously.  Who says Door Supervisors can't compromise?  The rest of the meeting saw the election of the Treasurer and the Secretary, both of whom welcomed the opportunity to do the role.

The meeting then went on to suggest the issue of Free Car-Parking should be a priority.  Pat Parkes suggested a "Taster session"in the new Physical Interventions competencies be arranged for the next meeting.  Additionally the meeting was informed of the aims of Door Mark as an opportunity to gain additional training free of charge.  Tracey Bush of OCN said they were happy to work with organisations like National Doorwatch that were really committed to raising standards - rather than just ticking boxes!  Ian Fox then gave an insight into the recent accquital of Steven Hopkins on trial for manslaughter and how that was achieved.

Members of Nottingham Doorwatch discuss the issues.

Finally at the end of it all it was great to see Door Supervisors from different companies talking about the issues that matter to them.  Needless to say they were't short on telling the committee they needed to see them deliver the goods!
